Aurora (30) Female, Taiwanese

I recognize that studying in a class has come out as a score of conversation and test.
Six months have passed since I came to WALES, but the TOEIC score when I came was a terrible result of 356 points … Then I studied with the 3 month ESL Flexible program and it was a short time of 5 hours a day class Regardless of that, I finally got a score of 722, almost double the score.

After taking the ESL Flexible for 3 months, I have changed the course to IELTS and it has been growing gradually from 4.0 to 5.0 although it has been about two months now.

The teachers are very hardworking, and I am very particular about preparing for classes to extend the students’ score. Specifically, how to use “example” differs depending on the teacher.
Some teachers change the construction and contents of “example” sentences according to students ‘goals and hobbies, others teachers aim to constantly make students’ sentences and actually use them in conversation and examination.

But, of course, not only good points but also minus aspects.
Because Koreans are about half of the students, when they go outside, they are mostly Korean conversations and less opportunities to talk in English. There are parts that I will not speak from me, but if I have opportunities to act with students from other countries I feel that the weekends will be fulfilling. However, I’m satisfied with my current environment and I am very grateful for feeling passion of teachers.

Chloe (22) Female, Korean

The choice of living in the Philippines was an unknown challenge that I had never experienced. Everything about studying abroad was fresh and attractive and I am convinced that WALES was the correct answer among them.

I was able to improve all the skills of each part (listening, reading, writing, speaking) in English learning and expanded my horizons.
I have studied here for 6 months in total (ESL 2 months, IELTS 4 months). Among them, I was able to learn the basics through ESL, so IELTS in a completely different style from TOEIC and OPIC was able to study without resistance.

It may have been giving up if there were no teachers who are familiar with the weaknesses of the students, but they always supported me and they got me in a relationship like a friend. In addition to study, I learned to learn and use English fundamentally and practically.

I am very thankful to the teachers and friends and I got a lot of things I can not forget in WALES ‘s study abroad life.

Marie (22) Female, Japanese

WALES is the best school to learn English. I will evaluate this school for the following three reasons.

In the beginning, I feel that it is the strength of this school to be able to interact with students from various countries. When I came, there was only one Japanese, so I could have many opportunities to speak English inevitably. I think that it was a very appreciated environment for me who had made the improvement of speaking one of the purposes of study abroad.
Also, some of the students came from Arab countries and it was a fresh experience for themselves who have never interacted with Arabs. Living in a person with different nationality can be hard work but a valuable experience was learned in learning mutual understanding of culture.

Next, I think WALES is the most comprehensive on the facility side among schools in Baguio. I am grateful that I have studied in a comfortable environment.
Baguio also has few insects. I am not good at insects, so I think that it was good to choose here even at that point.

Finally, I was able to significantly increase the score of TOEIC. The score which was 705 points before coming here began to exceed 850 points in two months. Since I have not received an official TOEIC yet, I am planning to come back to Japan, but I believe that I can progress my job hunting activities advantageously.

I appreciate the enthusiastic guidance of teachers at WALES. For the above reasons I will recommend this school. If you are enrolled in WALES, a multinational friend, and a wonderful environment will be waiting for you. In addition, you will have the opportunity to connect to your future.

The SECRETS of Teachers in WALES ~Pronunciation Training~ [YouTube]

Hello! Today’s our news letter topic is “Pronunciation training”. A few days ago, we introduced lecture trainings for teachers in another news letter. This time we will show you how teachers get pronunciation lecture skills and teach students good pronunciation.

When it comes to pronunciation, many Japanese have strong accents, which hinder students from improving their English skills. Therefore we put a special emphasis on pronunciation trainings both for teachers and students.
Especially for teachers, we provide

1.1 week special trainings for new teachers
2. Every day teachers’ training

We provide teachers how to teach pronunciation effectively so that they can use those methods in classes.

For example, there is [ə] : sound in English pronunciation, which is called “schwa”. This is a very obscure sound, but by using it effectually, your pronunciation becomes more native-like.To achieve this pronunciation, teachers are trained to pronounce it with their mouths closed, which makes their Philippine accents into native accents. They can also teach students that method.
